Letter From The Editor - Issue 58 - August 2017
Welcome, adventurers, to issue 58 of Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show! As
summer ebbs toward autumn, we bring you fiction both entertaining and empowering:
"The Resurrectionist" has the power to bring the dead back to life. One time per client, please . . .
and while his fees are substantial, the price to the immortal soul so revived is far more vast. J.P.
Sullivan scribes a tale of revenge both temporal and eternal.
Summer heat got you down? Take a walk with Renei, Jared Cooper's protagonist in "Cut from
Cracked Ice." Cryokinesis is her talent . . . was her talent. Now the ice that she was gifted with
has lodged in her heart. But it's summertime. Walk with her a bit. Get to know her mother. Her
lover, Lindie. If her heart thaws, what does it reveal?
I admit to being a big fan of Peter Pan lore. Ken Altabef's "The Memory Thief" fits very nicely
in that realm, with a twist of course. This time, the only Lost Boy is more of a Lost Geezer--an
elderly physician who takes it upon himself to heal a very sick Pan.
Shannon Peavey's "Not Sisters" is our dark fantasy offering this month. It is a deep, richly told
story of two sisters--one visible, one not, and their dealings with a doctor who would devour the
whole world just to know it.
Allison Mulder's "Hell Sat and Bantered" is about anagrams and bad dates. It's also about three
generations of women with the power to see the future, but significant concerns about whether
they should try to change it.
Our audio offering this month is 'Nemesis Inside' by Amanda Helms, read by Emily Rankin.
Remember when they used to include plastic toy figures in cereal boxes? This story explains why
they stopped . . .
All this plus our Intergalactic Interview and reprint!
